    The riding instructions for US President Trump’s dismantling of democracy have been revealed in a series of articles outlining the role of billionaire mathematician Robert Mercer and his network of think-tanks, lobby groups and media companies. White-house chief strategist Steve Bannon, formerly editor in chief of Mercer’s Breitbart News, has said that he wants to emulate Lenin’s revolution in Russia a century ago and totally destroy the current establishment to start again.

    It is too easy to fill these pages with the real stories of the Trump holocaust on democracy. Under the guidance of Steve Bannon this government will  expunge all norms of political compromise. Two centuries of hard-fought legislation designed to protect people and the environment will be systematically terminated. The state is being retooled as an arm of business in putting profit before all else. When this team has finished and if there is any democracy left we the people will have to start fighting again, from the very ground, for the protective social legislation that eight generations has gradually put together. Or, if there is no democracy left, then ….. ??
     
    I am not going to spend your time on the daily acts in this Vendetta. But the analyses that follow each describe an important aspect of this terrible man and his anti-societal despicable henchmen.

    Resistance to the super-antibiotics Carbapenem and Colistin is spreading from farm animals to people in over 25 countries.

    The bacteria resistant to these anti-biotics of last resort, first appeared in the industrial-harming centres where animals are pumped full of antibiotics to keep them alive in unhealthy conditions.

    The mrc-1 gene that gives bacteria resistance to Colistin has now appeared in countries where Colistin is not fed to animals. China has just banned the use of Colistin in meat production and has started actively using it in hospitals. The presence of the mrc-1 gene in the general population, though, may mean that it is too late.

    The colistin resistance gene, mrc-1, has now been found in 25 countries, on four continents. It was first detected in China, though it is not known if it evolved there. It could well have as colistin is not used as an antibiotic in people, but 8000 tonnes of the drug is given to animals as a growth promoter every year, mainly to pigs and chickens. In April, this practice will be banned in China, and colistin will begin to be used to treat people instead. But it may be too late.

    The Huffington Post reported last week that research carried out in December indicates the Totten glacier in the Antarctic is melting faster than thought due to warm water trickling through the glacier and melting it from below. The Totten glacier is the biggest in east Antarctica. The glacier itself is around 120 kilometres long, 30 kilometres wide and drains some 538,000 square kilometres of the continent. That’s an area bigger than California. The ice is kilometres thick, but it’s melting at 70 metres a year in some spots.

    Local farmer battles fires on his property in NSW

    Fires caused by the extreme heat wave over the weekend have consumed the NSW town of Uarbry leaving around 100 residents homeless. Over 80 fires continue to burn, 23 of them out of control, across Western and Northern NSW. Those areas report the hottest February temperatures on record, while much of Queensland recorded the hottest temperatures ever as the Summer That Will Not End in Our Lifetime settles in. Climate chaos has led to unseasonal flooding in Western Australia with many rivers rising more than four metres in massive rainfall over the weekend.

    Inustry wants renewables
    Members of seven peak industry bodies have joined forces to demand a coherent and stable renewable policy

    Energy producers and consumers including the Aluminium Council of Australia and the Cement Industry Federation have jointly written an open letter demanding stable, long-term, non-partisan energy policy.

    Head of the Aluminium Council, Bruce Cox, said that the industry is not concerned how energy is produced, only that it is reliable. “The aluminium industry in Tasmania is very profitable and Tasmania uses around 85% renewables,” Cox told ABC Radio this morning.

    The Federal Minister for Energy, Josh Frydenberg immediately blamed the Labor Party for being too focused on renewable energy.

    Iran announced earlier this month that it will stop reporting its financial affairs in US dollar from the end of its Fiscal year in March.

    The nation also tested a ballistic missile causing Israel to demand firm action from the US. Iran immediately suspended all future visas for American citizens in direct response to President Trump’s ban on immigration from seven Muslim countries.

    By agreement with OPEC, all oil in the world is traded in US dollars, complicating Iran’s oil trade worth 41 billion US dollars and leading to currency exchange losses. US pundits are concerned that trading oil in other currencies will to lead to a collapse of the US economy.
