The Gruen ad amended

Hi there, My name is Jenny Rose. I’m a mum of two grown up daughters, a retired teacher and a keen gardener. I started volunteering with the Greens several elections ago, because I was disgusted with the Howard Government’s lack of action on climate change. THE GRUEN AD

admin /12 August, 2010

Since this ad went to air on ABC’s Gruen Nation on Wednesday night, the Greens office has been inundated with messages and phone calls asking us to put the ad on air. Gruen panelist and Leo Burnett CEO Todd Sampson said that “it was the best ad the Greens have ever done”.

So, first thing Thursday morning we contacted Republic of Everyone to ask if we could use it and they agreed. Unfortunately, it looks like ABC editorial policy means it won’t run on TV. But if you love this ad you can share it with your friends on Facebook and Twitter using the buttons below. We might not be able to run the ad on TV, but that doesn’t mean we can’t help tens of thousands more people see the ad before Election Day.

GET-UP Help out on Election day

admin /12 August, 2010

Dear NEVILLE,

It’s incredible but true: 10% of voters make up their mind as they walk into polling booths.

What will they be thinking about this election? Will it be how to reduce carbon pollution? Or giving refugees a fair go – or perhaps mental health? That’s up to you.

Election day is the most important day for contacting voters, and polling booths are the most important place to do it. We won’t tell people who to vote for – we tell them about the issues that matter. It’s a few hours of your time, to determine the policies that shape the nation – and it’s actually great fun!

Will you join hundreds of other GetUp members in your area on election day?

Confrontation: Mark Latham with Opposition Leader Tony Abbott (SKY News

Former Labor leader Mark Latham has been heckled by veterans after turning up at a Tony Abbott campaign stop at a Sydney RSL today.

Mr Abbott was at Penrith RSL to announce a $45.6 million package of assistance measures for veterans.

But the announcement was upstaged when media focus turned to Mr Latham, who was there on assignment in his new role as a reporter for Channel Nine’s 60 Minutes program.

Mr Latham confronted Mr Abbott and criticised his immigration policy, asking him if he wanted to apologise to Pauline Hanson for what Mr Latham said was his part in her jailing for electoral fraud.

While Mr Abbott was answering Mr Latham’s question a veteran told the former Labor leader to “take off”.
