Cyclone Larry may herald onset of a wetter La Nina Pacific weather system
Borderline La Nina conditions: "It would be fair to say it is borderline La Nina conditions, either just short of it, or just on it," said Blair Trewin from the National Climate Centre.
La Nina pushes cyclones westward: He added: "In a full-on La Nina season you do tend to see more cyclone activity off Queensland. What tends to happen is that in a La Nina year the main focus of tropical cyclone activity in the south Pacific gets pushed westwards towards Queensland."
