Labor’s candidate for the marginal Sydney seat of Hughes is campaigning against a project the Federal Infrastructure Minister has listed as one of his key achievements.
Hughes in Sydney’s south-west is held by the Liberal Party by just 0.5 per cent.
One of the major issues in the electorate is the proposed construction of an intermodal freight terminal at Moorebank.
The Federal Government has committed $300 million towards the project through the Nation Building Program.
The Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese says the freight hub will “transform the movement of freight into and out of Port Botany as well as through the Sydney Basin.”
At a recent press conference when he was repeatedly questioned about the level of federal infrastructure funding in Sydney, Mr Albanese highlighted the Moorebank Intermodal as one of the government’s main projects.
“The Moorebank Intermodal Terminal will take one million trucks off the M5. Great benefit for the whole of Sydney,” Mr Albanese said.
