$800,000 project to recharge aquifer: If the chamber fills up it overflows into Randwick City Council’s stormwater drains and eventually runs out to sea. The chamber, which cost $800,000 to build, will take pressure off ageing stormwater pipes and recharge the aquifer from which the university draws most of its non-potable water.
160ML to be returned this year: Bores were being sunk last week to test how clean the water was. The university expected that 160 megalitres of stormwater could be returned to the aquifer in a year, about 80 per cent of what it takes from underground.
