8.7 quake off Aceh triggers tsunami alert

Indonesia’s geophysical agency has issued a tsunami warning after an 8.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Aceh.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) says the quake was detected about 495 kilometres south-west of Banda Aceh.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre says a tsunami watch has been issued for the entire Indian Ocean.
The quake was felt as far away as Singapore, Thailand and India.
