ABC cuts announcement – what you can do

    Kelsey – GetUp!

    8:57 PM (2 minutes ago)

    to me

GetUp members at events to protect the ABC and SBS over the weekend

    NEVILLE,

Yesterday, the Abbott Government’s axe fell hard upon the ABC and SBS. Funding cuts of $254 million over five years will mean Lateline and Australian Story will be gutted, five Radio National shows will go, more than 400 people – 10% of the staff – could lose their jobs, and more than 100 staff lost from the ABC News division.1

Before the election, there was nothing more offensive to Tony Abbott than a broken promise. Now, after insisting the night before we went to the ballot box we’d see “no cuts to the ABC or SBS”2, this announcement flies in the face of his supposed moral outrage, and stands as a betrayal of our beloved public broadcaster from a government with an axe to grind.

The extent of the cuts were shocking, but for GetUp members like you, sadly, they don’t come as a surprise. We’ve been campaigning against these cuts all year, and in the last fortnight alone we’ve responded in force – calling Cabinet Ministers and MPs, and rallying in cities and towns across the country, alongside our friends at Community and Public Sector Union, Friends of the ABC, and the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance. As a movement, we’ve created a media buzz and backlash estimated to have been seen by more than 8 million Australians. GetUp members have been fighting to protect the ABC at every turn for eight years, and we’re not stopping any time soon.

We’ve got a plan to make sure Tony Abbott – as well as every voter, every MP in a marginal electorate – finds his broken promise on ABC cuts impossible to forget.

Watch this video, share it far and wide – and if you can, chip in – to make sure it’s seen by as many people as possible:

For so many of us, the ABC is an invaluable companion, a trusted source of information, an Aunty, an essential service in a time of natural disaster or need. It’s one of so few Australian media outlets that is free of commercial interests, and free to remain fair and independent.

If we let the Abbott Government get away with damning cuts without resounding public outrage, we could see the risk to the ABC and SBS continue to rise. It’s up to us to make sure this government doesn’t think it can get away with decimating funds again in the future, or threatening the ABC with further cuts, simply because they ran stories that weren’t to their taste.

Although Mr Abbott broke his election promise and cut the ABC and SBS, the efforts from GetUp members and community groups in the last fortnight are making this betrayal unforgettable. Over the last fortnight alone:

      • More than 200 GetUp members called Cabinet Ministers, and told them that any government who cuts funds for the ABC and SBS has lost their vote.
      • Another 200 called ALP Ministers and urged them to re-commit the funds to public broadcasting if elected at the next Federal Election.
      • Thousands of us rallied alongside the CPSU, the MEAA and ABC Friends in cities and towns around the country, with the story covered in dozens of primetime news stories, countless local news outlets and estimated to be seen by more than 8 million Australians in total.
    • GetUp members helped collect signatures for our petition to protect the ABC, which has now been signed by over a quarter of a million Australians.

We know the Coalition Government are feeling the heat from a community outraged. One Liberal MP even admitted that Mr Abbott likely regrets making a promise he had planned to break.3

There couldn’t be a better time to get our message out. Right now, the Abbott Government is more vulnerable than they’ve ever been in the polls4 – they know they can’t afford to lose supporters nor swing voters who love and support strong funding for the ABC.5

Many voters don’t know about the ABC cuts, and that the Abbott Government has broken its election-eve promise to the Australian public. But we can change that.

Click here to watch and share a video that shows Mr Abbott’s broken promise to his voters on the ABC and SBS – and chip in if you can.

GetUp members have been fighting to protect the ABC since the beginning of our movement, and that’s not about to change. Thank you for standing up for quality, independent journalism time and time again.

Let’s keep fighting to keep the bastards honest. Thank you for being part of the campaign.

Kelsey, Sally, Sam, Alycia and the GetUp team

PS – If you have a personal story about why the ABC matters to you, how it was there for you in a time of need or how it’s had a significant impact on your life, we would love to hear from you. We’d like to find some powerful stories from our membership to share with the media and use in the campaign. Click here to tell us your noteworthy story

    Taegen, Solar Citizens

    11:20 AM (25 minutes ago)

    to me

    Dear NEVILLE,

They’re still not seeing sense. Reports have surfaced that in the last 24 hours the Liberal Democrats Senator David Leyonhjelm is counting votes with yet another plan to destroy solar and the Renewable Energy Target*.

These out of touch politicians are going to extraordinary lengths in their attempt to destroy solar, but we can go even further to keep our sunny future strong.

That’s why Terry is travelling 1,298km from Buderim on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast to our nation’s capital to tell our politicians: “Don’t Block Out the Sun”.

In a few days’ time Terry will be one of 20 Solar Citizens volunteers from all over Australia who are heading to Canberra to step up our campaign to protect the Target.

They’ll be meeting with representatives in Parliament House on Monday December 1 – the first day of summer and the opening day of the final week that Parliament sits for the year. It’s a critical moment when we can show our MPs what real community support for solar looks like. Will you help them get there?

Here’s why Terry wants to go to Canberra:

My wife and I moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2007. We found our electricity bills going up each year with little hope of stabilising. In 2011 we invested in rooftop solar and we’ve been very happy with every electricity account since then.

I want to go to Canberra to ask our decision makers if they have a vision for the massive benefits of solar for the economy and the planet. My questions are simple: Do you want Australians to have clean cheap electricity? And what is your plan to move into the future of electricity generation?

With negotiations between the major parties over the future of the Target stalled, and an unstable Senate peppered with cross bench senators, thousands solar and renewable energy jobs are grinding to a halt. This is our chance to step into Parliament House and influence what happens next.

But we need your help to pull this off. Solar Citizens is an independent community organisation relying on the generous donations and support of people like you who know that solar is the sensible solution for our country’s energy future. Will you donate $50 or whatever you can afford today to help Terry and the rest of our volunteer team get to Canberra to deliver their message on the first day of summer?

While we’re in Canberra we’ll make sure we get the attention of politicians and media with an eye-catching display on the lawns of Parliament House. Beach towels, umbrellas and a giant bottle of “Abbott’s Sunblock” will be the flavour of the day, but the message couldn’t be more serious. Don’t destroy solar and renewables.

Your donation will go towards travel and accommodation costs for our team of solar advocates who are giving up their time to come and deliver this powerful message on behalf of millions of Aussie Solar Citizens all over the country. Chip in $50 or whatever you can afford to help us get Terry and other solar representatives to Canberra at this key moment before Parliament wraps up for the year.

After they return from meeting our leaders at Parliament House, we’ll be sure to send you a full report back on everything that our fantastic team of Solar Citizens representatives achieves.

Thanks so much for your support,

Terry, Taegen and the Solar Citizens team

P.S. While we’re in Canberra we’ll also be putting our team of 20 volunteers through their paces and training them up to become skilled community organisers in their states, so that together we can keep building an unstoppable Solar Citizens movement around the country. We know that investing in this training will help us protect the Renewable Energy Target and realise a strong solar future for Australia in 2015 and beyond. But the costs of getting the team to Canberra all add up, so please back us if you can by making your donation today.

Industrial design windmill for Wind farms very low cost easy to assemble by unskilled workers.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vvbmGa0XVY&feature=youtu.be

My US patents 7780416 &  8702393 windmills the energy it generates is tens of times more than the present windmill for a windmill which costs tenth the cost of the present windmill.

Therefore this windmill is hundreds of times more efficient than the present windmill per cost/power generated

    .
The blinking sail windmill generates so much electricity due to its large size let’s say the 20 meters by 20 meters that the owner will get his money back in 142 days and that will never happen in any windmill even when they dream of one, the owner of the blinking sail windmill will get his money back in 142 days when he use it to generate electricity or make distilled water in desert countries or when making hydrogen from water to use it in cars instead of using petrol.

My windmill has all these three properties it cost 10% only of the cost of the present windmill and this low cost BLINKING SAIL WINDMILL generates ten time more electricity than the present windmill therefore it is 10 x 10 = 100 times more efficient than the present windmill, in view of the cost. Besides that it has much less maintenance cost since the generator is not 170 meters above the ground like the present windmill because the blinking sail windmill generator is few meters above the ground .

therefore no lightening can damage the generator of the blinking sail windmill

    .

More energy is used to produce present wind turbine than it will ever generate

Blinking sail windmill only uses 14.8 tons of steel. All of it can be packed in one single track and assembled by unskilled workers without the use of any crane. It cost %1 of the cost of the present windmill.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vvbmGa0XVY&feature=youtu.be

This windmill does not need a proto type to prove its magical capability since the sails which move boats and ships is the proto type for this invention.

This windmill has one of the sales blocking the wind all the time. Therefore it generates power. While all the other sails letting the wind to pass through freely without any obstruction, so as if they do not exist. The result is one sail like in the ship generating power capable of moving a big electrical generator or a big water pump.

The sail boats race which takes place every year where the boats travel around the world and all the power is supplied to these boats for this very long trip comes from a piece of cloth its price equivalent to some gallons of petrol. If changed to an engine boat it will need tons and tons of petrol to complete the journey around the world besides the spare parts and the initial high cost.

When you watch these boats you can really see them moving at a high speed and cutting through the water with real force and big power and all of this is coming from a peace of cloth practically worth’s nothing.

If we make the electrical generator of the Blinking Sail Windmill having multi coil so when the wind is week only one coil activated then when the wind gets faster the second coil is activated so we get more electrical power and if the wind gets stronger the third coil activated and so on.

when the wind gets much stronger the spiral spring of the horizontal bars starts to act so the horizontal bars start to swing to the other side, so even the active sail ( the sail which is blocking the wind) starts to let some of the wind to pass through the active sail so the wind do not damage the sail and as the wind gets stronger the gap gets bigger, therefore  all the time the Blinking Sail Windmill is safe and generates electricity at the strongest winds besides generating electricity at the weakest wind near to stand still speed.

Giant manufacturers have to scrap all their factories & make new once. Therefore they don’t
want this breakthrough Blinking sail windmill.

Plus it will cancel all their contracts for new wind farms which they have now they will lose billions

This new windmill can be made by any one it is so simple design. And can be assembled by any one with no cranes at all

It’s rare to see that clearly how much concrete there’s in an offshore wind turbine, this is just for 30MW

And it can be assembled in very short time by very unskilled people. see this vidio..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vvbmGa0XVY&feature=youtu.be

The video above shows step by step how it is made and assembled that is the 20×20 meter windmill

It can be assembled by any unskilled people it is so cheep so efficient so easy for maintenance.

The solution to energy problem of this planet is this breakthrough windmill

Which is 1000 times more efficient than present windmills in view of cost to the energy production

Where with this Blinking sail windmill if we build offshore huge windmills with a cost of one billion dollars

They will give us power equivalent to one trillion dollars windmills of the types used to day.

It may sound unbelievable but the calculations prove it without any doubt.

Send me an email I will send you the calculations which proves that.

No one can argue with calculations because math’s is a constant thing no one can proves it wrong no one at all.

    Blinking sail windmill, BSW

The rotational surface area for a BSW which has frames 20 meters by 20 meters is:

    40m x 20m = 800 square meters

Since only one frame is active therefore:

We have %50 of the surface area is generation power which is:

    800 x %50 = 400 square meters.

    .

    Three blades windmill

The blade length is 20 meters therefore it rotates in a circle its radius is 20 meters.

Surface area for this windmill is:

    2Πr2

    2 x 3.141 x 20 x 20 = 2513 square meters

The blade width is one meter therefore its surface area is:

    1 x 20 = 20 square meters

We have three blades therefore their total surface area which is responsible for generating the power is:

    20 x 3 = 60 square meters

So the Three blades windmill has surface area of 2513 square meters of which only 60 square meters are active.

Therefore the efficiency of this windmill in surface area wise is:

    60/2513 x 100 = %2.388

    .

If the blade is 2 meters wide the three blades surface area will be:

    2 x 60 = 120

Therefore the efficiency of this windmill in surface area wise will be:

    120/2513 x 100 = %4.78

    Conclusion

The blinking sail windmill efficiency in surface area wise is %50.

The Three blades windmill efficiency in surface area wise is %2.388

Therefore if we divide the efficiency of the blinking sail windmill by the efficiency of the Three blades windmill :

    %50 / %2.388 = 20.9

Therefore the blinking sail windmill is more efficient than the Three blades windmill in active surface area wise by 20.9 times.

If the Three blades windmill has blades 2 meters wide then:

The blinking sail windmill is more efficient than the Three blades windmill in active surface area wise by %50 / %4.78= 10.5 times.

If we take cost and efficiency in consideration then the 20 x 20 meters Blinking sail windmill is more efficient than the 170 meter three blades windmill

The blade length is 170 meters therefore it rotates in a circle its radius is 170 meters.

Surface area for this windmill is:

    2Πr2

    2 x 3.141 x 170 x 170 = 181549.8 square meters

The blade width is one meter therefore its surface area is:

    1 x 20 = 170 square meters

We have three blades therefore their total surface area which is responsible for generating the power is:

    170 x 3 = 510 square meters

So the Three blades windmill has surface area of 181549.8 square meters of which only 510 square meters are active.

Therefore the efficiency of this windmill in surface area wise is:

    510 /181549.8 x 100 = %0.281

The blinking sail windmill efficiency in surface area wise is %50.

The Three blades windmill efficiency in surface area wise is %0.281

Therefore if we divide the efficiency of the blinking sail windmill by the efficiency of the Three blades windmill :

    %50 / %0.281= 177.93

Therefore the blinking sail windmill is more efficient than the three blades windmill in active surface area wise by 177.93 times per cost/ power generated.

Industrial design windmill for Wind farms very low cost easy to assemble by unskilled workers.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vvbmGa0XVY&feature=youtu.be

Industrial-size Blinking Sail Windmill can easily be manufactured, packed, transported and quickly assembled at site by unskilled people in a very short period of time.

This video step by step shall outline the manufacturing process of the Frame Unit, one of the key components of the Blinking Sail Windmill.

Which consists from very simple parts which can be made by any small factory in any country, even the poorest country in the world.

These parts are perforated steel flat bars, steel Angle, Mounted Bearings,

Swinging Window, Sail, Sail Shaft, very small Spiral Springs, Vertical Post.

The Sail can be made of two thin layers of plastic or synthetic materials,

ratenge, sandwiching a mesh of fine steel wires, such as piano wires. The result is a tough, yet light sail that can easily be moved by a light breeze

The Vertical Post made in 0ne or two meters parts then assembled on site. Where each of these parts is made to be assembled on site therefore it is easily manufactured, packed, transported and quickly assembled at site.

    Sarah Jay via Change.org

    5:58 PM (4 minutes ago)
    to me
NEVILLE – There’s a new petition trending on Change.org, and we think you might be interested in signing it:

Colin Barnett: Stop the closure of the homelands. State and Federal governments must fund services in remote Aboriginal communities.

    Sarah Jay
    Australia
    Sign Sarah’s petition
Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett has announced the state will close 100 to 150 of the 274 remote communities in WA. He has stated that the WA government will not pick up the shortfall once Federal funding ends in July 2015.

The Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) lands in South Australia are also under threat due to the withdrawal of federal funding.

Communities in the Northern Territory have already been closed, having devastating consequences on those who have been removed from their lands.

“We see this as the biggest threat to our people since the shocking events of the 1960s … we assert the right of people to live in and on their traditional country, for which they have ancient and deep responsibilities”

“We assert the right of people to live in and on their traditional country, for which they have ancient and deep responsibilities. To be talking of relocating people off their traditional country does indeed take us back 50 years in a very ugly way.”  Fitzroy Valley traditional owners and native title holders.

By raising their families on homelands, Aboriginal people are able to maintain their deep spiritual and economic connection to their land. They can raise their children within cultural context, away from the discrimination that often still exists in larger towns. With proper services like health, education, water and shelter, people can be healthier and live longer on homelands.

Homelands are widely understood to have lower levels of social problems, such as domestic violence and substance abuse, than more populated communities. According to reports, the health of Indigenous people living on homelands is significantly better than of those living in larger communities. Homelands are also used effectively as part of substance abuse and other programmes for at-risk Aboriginal youth living in more populated or urban centres.” (UN Special Rapporteur on Indigenous Rights)

STOP the closure of the Homelands. It is essential that federal and state governments provide these communities with the services they require.

The funding of remote Aboriginal communities must not end.

Aboriginal communities MUST be allowed to live on their land, and must be provided the same services that other Australian’s take for granted.

“It’s smacks of the assimilation policies over the early 60s, it’s horrendous. This is a diabolical, in my view, highly racially motivated agenda.”

    Greens MLC Robin Chapple

“How can it be that everyone in the state except Aboriginals get the funding, that’s where my anger is. It’s almost like an infrastructure apartheid system. He (Barnett) is moving into a very dangerous area. My argument is that if they are supplying services to communities of the same size of Aboriginal communities but they are not providing them to Aboriginal communities, I call that infrastructure apartheid. This has been going on for decades from state and territory governments and it has got to stop.’’
