Neville —
Our campaign might have worked. It looks like the Abbott Government is going to drop its plan to cut the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission.
This morning, Social Services Minister Scott Morrison told the Philanthropy Meets Parliament summit that his Government had “consulted widely, and there is very strong support for the ACNC.” He went on to admit that: “I don’t believe there would be support in the Senate for there to be any change.” He is dead right about that.
This hasn’t been confirmed – and we definitely can’t claim victory yet – but it’s a good sign that the pressure from charities, not-for-profits, organised religion and supporters like you, is working.
This is one election commitment we are very happy to see them break.
