For many years, the farming communities of the Liverpool Plains in central NSW have been fighting to stop Chinese company Shenhua’s proposed mega coal mine. Now they are asking for your help.
This project is a shocker:
- 35km of open cut pits
- 10 million tonnes of coal every year
- 24 hours a day, 7 days a week of water, health and biodiversity impacts.
Shenhua’s mine will be a disaster for local farmers whose water will be impacted by the mine and the Gomeroi traditional owners who have important cultural sites in the area. If we want a safe climate future, this coal has got to stay in the ground.
Enough is enough. Projects like this simply can’t go ahead.
Here’s how you can join the stand. On the weekend of 6-8 November, the Liverpool Plains community has called for a national gathering – the Harvest Festival against Shenhua Coal Mine. Are you in?
The locals have fought this project at every turn, but the State and Federal Government are doing all they can to get this project off the ground and Chinese company Shenhua has ample funding.
That’s why people from across Australia have been invited to join the Harvest Festival and help build a swell of opposition to this project that will be felt in the halls of power in Sydney and Canberra.
The Harvest Festival promises to be an inspiring, fun-filled and family-friendly weekend. There will be live music, tours of the region, kids activities, delicious food, plus workshops on local farming, Gomeroi culture and heritage, the risks posed by the Shenhua mine and training in the skills we’ll need to defend the Liverpool Plains against the mine…and more!
When: Friday 6th Nov – Sunday 8th
Where: West Garawan (next to the proposed mine site) at Breeza on the Liverpool Plains. Approximately 3 hours from Newcastle.
How: There will be bus options from the major cities and carpooling from other areas.
