Controversial Redcliffe MP Scott Driscoll has been suspended from the LNP upon the request of Premier Campbell Newman.

The Premier called a snap press conference in Brisbane on Monday afternoon where he revealed he had contacted LNP president Bruce McIver to request that Mr Driscoll be suspended from the party.

“There has been a fair lot of controversy surrounding the Member for Redclifffe,” Mr Newman said.

He said the controversies surrounding Mr Driscoll were a distraction for the government, which he could no longer tolerate.

‘‘I’ve have been the instigator of this [suspension],’’ Mr Newman said.

‘‘He will not be attending LNP party room meetings. He will not be accountable to the party whips.’’
