Inga —

We got some great news from Bonn last night – the World Heritage Committee has upheld their draft decision not to list the Great Barrier Reef as ‘World Heritage In Danger’.

This is a great win for the thousands of people who have worked so hard to bring the Great Barrier Reef back from the brink.

Activists, scientists and members of the community have all played their parts in this achievement. We can all be proud of this outcome.  As a party, we can also be proud of the work we’ve done to secure the reef. It was a Federal Labor Government who started all the work that the World Heritage Committee based its decision on, and it’s a State Labor Government that has finished it.

It was Labor that established the $200 million Reef Rescue program, banned dumping of capital dredge spoil in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and Appointed Queensland’s first ever Minister dedicated to the Great Barrier Reef. These are just a few of the actions we took. You can watch the rest in this video:

Please share Labor’s great achievements in protecting one of Australia’s – and the world’s –  most magnificent natural assets.

The Great Barrier Reef is still under pressure from the impacts of climate change and for as long as Tony Abbott ignores the issue of climate change, the Reef’s health will be threatened. Labor will continue to stand up for the reef.

Regards,
Bill and Annastacia
