to me
.
Neville,
During the final weeks of Parliament last year, Christopher Pyne copped some flak for harassing PUP Senator Glenn Lazarus with text messages.

Senator Lazarus said that the Education Minister was practically “begging him” to vote for the Liberal’s plan for $100,000 university degrees.

We had a brief win when the uni deregulation bill failed in the Senate, but sadly the Abbott Government is determined to Americanise our universities and introduced a new bill straight back into Parliament the next day.

That’s where you came in — we asked you to send a text message to Christopher Pyne to let him know your thoughts on the unfair changes to our universities.

Thousands of you did and because of that Christopher Pyne has 7315 text messages to read. This message especially touched me:

“Christopher Pyne my son deserves a tertiary education without having to pay more $80000 for the engineering degree he hopes to embark on in 3 years time. We need to encourage our bright young talent to enter education for professional degrees and not price them out.”

So thanks for speaking up. Though it seems like something small, together we made sure Christopher Pyne couldn’t avoid hearing what Australians really think about his plans.

I’ll keep fighting the Government on this issue and hope you’ll join me in that fight too.

Thanks for your support on this,

Amanda Rishworth
Shadow Assistant Minister for Higher Education
